Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Round 1 & 2 in Las Vegas 2010

Now with the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing series going strong, a sudden quick change in venue moved the 2010 season opener to the city of lights, Las Vegas.

The actual venue was the Las Vegas Motor Speedway north of the Las Vegas Strip, and a completely new track was developed and LOORRS certainly did their homework. This track was not only challenging for the racers but also gave the many spectators a lot to see with a huge jump in front of the grand stands for the start/finish line.

One of the biggest surprises was seeing all the racers from the Traxxas TORC Series competing in this race. With so many trucks battling for first, you can be assured there was a ton of action.

Scott Douglas, that normally races in the TORC Series saw the overwhelming number of entrants and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to rub metal with everyone. He was debuting a new truck and with no practicing, he shows up to qualifying just minutes before. He ends up getting third in qualifying in the 19 truck field.

Douglass started third for Saturday’s Round 1 and quickly raced to the front, and held the top spot through the mandatory yellow and all the way to the checkered flag, Kyle LeDuc and Carl Renezeder took 2nd and 3rd.

Sunday’s Round 2 saw Douglas start 6th and made it to second place, behind Rick Huseman that also captured the Best Lap Time for the day.

In Unlimited 2 class we saw Jeremy McGrath take the pole position in qualifying. Unfortunately McGrath’s day was ended shortly after the start of the race with what looked to be a broken tie-rod. Ricky Johnson, founder of the TORC series, came to race the LOORRS Series and held the lead to take the first spot on the podium. Legendary Las Vegas native Rob McCachren finished just behind Johnson for second and Rodrigo Ampudia, rounded out the top 3. Robby Woods and Kevin Probst took 4th and 5th respectively for Saturday.

In Unlimited Lite, Chris Brandt took the top podium spot with Marty Hart and Brian Deegan taking second and third on Saturday. Brandt also had the fastest speed for the day with 52.560 mph showing on the speedo. Sunday’s race was won by Rodrigo Ampudia but he was later DQ’d for a wheelbase measurement issue. This opened the doors for Matt Loidice to capture his first win in the class.

Freestyle Motocross star Brian Deegan took first on Saturday and Sunday in Super Lite Class. Stepping up to Super Lite was last year’s UTV Champ Chad George as he finished right behind Deegan on both days. George also managed to catch the fastest speed on Saturday, 50.929 mph.
