The Extreme Motorsports Expo 2007 is the 5th year for this great event. It is held at the Orange County Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa CA. Let me tell you if you like anything offroad this is a must see event. It offers everything for the offroad enthusiast like long travel sand cars, lifted golf carts, highly modified side x sides like Rhinos, prerunners and giant lifted trucks.
The long travel rhinos and sandrails were impressive, but we were there for the prerunners. We started our day by visiting the Woolworth Motorsports booth. This should be obvious to our regular readers as they are the builders of the Prerunner Maniac Desert 4x4 Project Ford Ranger. They had their Shop Truck a 2006 Ranger with the Dixon Long Travel kit and the custom bedcage built in house, there along with a 1400 race truck they built and maintain (this is the same truck that graces the header of this site). After a little chitchat is on to meet with the other vendors.
Our next stop was at Wicked Carts booth. They specialize in building some of the most extreme lifted golf carts we have come across. I call these things sand limos as they featured hi-powered stereos, room for all your friends with some great custom paint. Through the rollcage of the green and black cart we caught sight of a HUGE H2 SUT.
This was in the Gibson Exhaust booth. Check out the attention to detail featured on this sport utility truck. Next to the H2 was a Super Duty that made the H2 look like a toy. It was sporting Intercos new 54 tires. I had my Wife (shes 52) in this picture just to show you how big this truck is.
Next it was on to the Dirt Alliance booth. These guys came prepared with a variety of prerunners. After speaking with one of the guys behind DA we are hoping to get an in-depth look at his new Chevy prerunner.
After a bite to eat we headed over to the Giant Motorsports booth. I felt these guys came to do business as one of their trucks they brought had some simple signs on them that told you the part and the price to have it fabbed/installed. That for us was the best way to sell your services.
Heading back past the DA booth with their dancing girls on top of their toy hauler a funny thing happened. While looking at a nicely built prerunner in the Custom Motorsports.com booth, I looked up and ran into my old neighbor that had moved away some 5 years ago. He moved to the opposite end of Las Vegas and we had not been able to keep in touch. This guy made some awesome hot rods in his garage (thats how we met) and after 5 years and we end up in Costa Mesa at the same time. Funny how these things happen.
The Custom Motorsports crew came with their guns a blazin. Not only did they bring this cool custom Ranger prerunner, they also had on display an F-650. The bottom of the door was almost 5 feet in the air.
We headed over to see this quad that caught our eye from a distance. I could not imagine how much the paint job on this thing was, but it was a sight to see.
By far the most impressive booth had to be the Full Potential Offroad booth. Talk about rolling out the red carpet these guys were there to impress. Their main focus for the show was to show off their hybrid prerunners, some would call these Truggies. A graceful blend of prerunner and sand rail these 2 vehicles got the Prerunner Maniac Top Honors Award. These pics are just a taste of the full feature we will have in an upcoming issue.
The day was warming up after the clouds started to dissipate. This seemed like the right time to head inside some of the buildings to get out of the heat and see some sick sand cars.
Inside one of the buildings was Funco Motorsports, builders of some of the craziest sandrails to ever hit the dunes. After looking at their rails I see why they carry the price tags they do. The beauty and skill that goes into building one of these sandrails justifies it completely.
Another leader in the sand sports industry is Sandstorm Fabrication. The plush interior of this 4-seater was more lush than those seen inside most Bentleys.
Just behind Sandstorm was RAW Motorsports. It was hard to get good pictures of their sand car, as the crowds were overwhelming.
Lonestar Racing brought a nice custom Rhino in their booth.
The vendors we featured here are just a handful of what is on sight at the Extreme Motorsports Expo. From Toy Hauler dealers to LED whip flags it offer something for everyone. It was definitely worth the trip to Costa Mesa.
See you next year at the Expo!!!
