Dale Dondel Takes The Mint 400 Pole
Early this morning the best off-road racers in the world arrived in Jean to battle it out for a top start position at The Greatest Off-Road Race in America™. The 3.4 mile qualifying loop had a mix of graded roads, sand washes, rutted out turns, and fast straight aways.
In a joint announcement from Las Vegas and El Cajon, CA, Casey Folks, director of Best In The Desert, and Brian Godfrey, FOX Marketing Manager, Off Road Division, announced FOX will become the presenting sponsor of one of Best In The Desert’s most revered off-road events in North America. This legendary race will now be named The General Tire “Vegas to Reno” Presented by FOX.
An excited Casey Folks, director of Best in the Desert, announced that more than 275 of the world’s fastest off-road racers have signed up to date for the Longest Off Road Race in the United States, The General Tire “Vegas to Reno”. Of particular note, this is the largest number of entries this early in history for this spectacular race.
LOS ANGELES—After nearly four decades of leadership in the sport he loves so much and nurtured as a parent would a child, iconic race producer Sal Fish announced today that he has sold his SCORE International desert racing organization that includes the SCORE Desert Racing Series to Roger Norman effective immediately. Fish, the CEO/President of Los Angeles-based SCORE International has set the pace for the sport of desert racing since shortly after it’s forming by the late Mickey Thompson in 1973.

The Blue Water Desert Challenge in Parker, AZ, October 12-14, hosted by the Blue Water Resort & Casino, is the fifth event in the six-race 2012 Best In The Desert “American Off-Road Racing Series”. Unlike all of the other Best In The Desert long distance races that are either a long loop race, or a point to point course, as is the Parker “425” or the recent General Tire “Vegas to Reno” courses, the Blue Water Desert Challenge is a 2-day multi-race format that features Best In The Desert’s Car, Truck and UTV classes running both days for combined results to determine the winners.
20 Best In The Desert Trick Trucks Signed Up For $120,000 2012 Trick Truck Challenge

20 of the 33 Trick Trucks entered in the 2012 Blue Water Resort & Casino Parker “425”, February 3rd thru 5th, have signed up to take part in this year’s Trick Truck Challenge. This will be the second year for the Trick Truck Challenge that saw over $134,000 in bonus money paid out in 2011. To be eligible for the year-long Challenge, Trick Truck teams must be signed up by the Parker “425” race.

Best In The Desert, the premier American Off-Road Racing Series, is excited to present next month’s Blue Water Resort & Casino “PARKER 425”, February 3rd thru 5th in Parker, Arizona. “The Legend Lives On” at this opening round for Best In The Desert’s car and truck classes. This race has a great and storied history including attracting huge race entries, and if the 700 people that showed up January 8th to take part in the “pre fun run” is any indication, the 2012 edition could very well turn out to be one of the biggest yet.

The last race on the Best In The Desert’s 2011 calendar is shaping up to be a real duel amongst competitors, with so many season class points championships riding on it. A total of 14 car and truck class championships will be decided at the end of the day when the dust settles on this last race of the season. The TransWest Ford Henderson “250” is also a “double points” race, so anything can happen in the final points shuffle.

There are just days remaining until the green flag drops on two full days of non-stop racing action at the exciting Blue Water Desert Challenge. As the event program went to press, there were already 128 entries. With additional entries taken up to the end of registration on Friday, over 150 competitors in 18 Best In The Desert classes are expected to take on the specially designed 26-mile course. Last year, at the end of the race, less than a minute separated Steve Sourapas & Andy McMillin from B.J. Baldwin in a two-day battle for supremacy in the coveted Trick Truck class, won by Sourapas & McMillin. And in the 1500 class, four minutes separated Loren Brown, the eventual winner, from the top 4 finishers. Will this year be as tight – or even tighter?

Best in the Desert’s Casey Folks announced today that more than 270 entries have already signed up to compete in the epic TSCO Vegas to Reno race on August 18-20. With more entries continuing to come in, close to 300 are expected by race day. The steadily growing field features big numbers in several classes. Three of the fastest classes have a total of 87 entries so far. There are 27 800+ horsepower Trick Trucks; 39 Class 1500 unlimited buggies, and 21 Class 7200 Mini Trick Trucks. On the powersports front, there are 15 UTVs, 22 quads, and 75 motorcycles registered.
Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series are coming up quick. This weekend's event, the Canidae Off Road Nationals, Presented by Rockstar Energy, will be held Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California, where the racers will get to deal with one track condition they haven't had to deal with all year - the races will be held at night, under the lights.
At over 550 miles in length, Best In The Desert’s TSCO “Vegas to Reno” race is certifiably “The Longest Off-Road Race in the United States.” It marks the midway point for the five-race 2011 Best In The Desert season featuring the car and truck classes and is one of the most popular events on the schedule. The challenge and adventure of competing in such a long distance “point to point” race always brings out the top off-road race teams. Not only is this going to be a big event but it’s also the 14th running of TSCO “Vegas to Reno.” This race is open to all Best In The Desert classes – cars, trucks, UTVs, quads and motorcycles and over 300 entries are expected from all across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, and even South Africa. The entry list reads like a “who’s who” of the world’s foremost off-road racers.
What better way to bring the sport of Off-Road Racing to mainstream television than covering the ‘granddaddy’ of events -- the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Langley Productions and Executive Producer John Langley did just that, and captured what many people have never seen – the elation and heartbreak that comes from charging through Mexico's majestic Baja California peninsula with the dream of conquering the unforgiving terrain and overcoming the competition to be crowned a winner and be added to a select group of world-class racers who have won the coveted and legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
