Off-road Racing News

Lompoc, CA - November 28, 2007: This weekend’s ‘Henderson 400’ will be a ‘no-brainer’ for the Dixon Bros. in their #7177 Ford Ranger Pickup since they only need to start the race to clinch the 2007 Best in the Desert Silver State Series Points Championship in Class 7100. Scheduled for Nov. 30 - Dec. 2, the ‘Henderson 400’ is the final race of the season for Best in the Desert and the fact that starting the race assures the points title for the Dixon Bros. gives them the freedom to put the hammer down from the start and go all out for their second win of the season. Although this will be the first points championship in Class 7100 for the new Dixon Bros. Racing #7177 Ford Ranger, they also won back to back BitD Class 7300 Points Championships in 2003/2004, also in a Ford Ranger.

Casey Folks, Director of Best in the Desert, announced that Daredevil Energy Drinks has been named as the “Official Energy Drink” of the Best in the Desert series. Folks made the announcement today, leading up to the final race of the Best in the Desert season, Henderson's Terrible “400”, November 30 and December 1-2.

2007 CAR/TRUCK GRAND CHAMPION AND INDIVIDUAL CLASS POINTS BATTLES COME DOWN TO THE WIRE AT BEST IN THE DESERT’S SEASON FINALE

As the Best In The Desert Racing Association gears up for the Henderson’s Terrible “400”, the last race on the 2007 schedule, there are still several racers within striking distance of class championships.

Lompoc, CA - October 2, 2007: With only two races remaining in Best in the Desert Racing Association’s Silver State Series, Dixon Bros. Racing prepares to leave for the upcoming BitD ‘Las Vegas 300’, Oct. 4-6, with a lead of 79 points in the race for the Class 7100 year-end points championship. This is not an insurmountable lead for their competitors, by any means, but finishing the next two races will clinch the 2007 Class 7100 Silver State Series Crown for the Dixon Bros. Ford Ranger, in it’s first year of competition. Of course, there’s nothing simple about finishing any off-road race where, often, less than 1/2 of the starters are able to reach the finish line but the fact that the Dixon Bros. have finished every race since the 1999 season would seem to make them the odds on favorite.

Reno, NV - August 25, 2007: The ‘Vegas to Reno’ off-road race is always tough and this year was no exception with less than ½ of the entries able to make it to the finish line in Best in the Desert Racing Association’s 570-mile race across Nevada. Aaron Dixon & Ed Ramirez started the race in the #7177 Dixon Bros. Racing Class 7100 Ford Ranger and ran without problems, swapping positions in the top three, until taking the lead just before the driver change in Goldfield (race mile 186). Ian Dixon and navigator Phil Ramirez had only been in the truck for five miles when the engine began cutting in and out before stopping dead on the course a few miles north of Goldfield. After a few moments of probing, Ian and Phil were able to get the truck running again but it continued to sputter whenever they hit a bump. “We figured it was a loose wire or electrical component,” said Ian. “ This became clear when we were on the dry lake bed at full speed without an engine miss but, the rougher the course became, the more the engine stumble.” They called the crew and arranged to pit in Tonopah (RM 226) for repairs. Aaron found a broken connection in the computer relay and once it was fixed the #7177 Dixon Bros Ford Ranger was back on the course and moving through race traffic again.

I am very sorry to report that there was a fatal accident during the TSCO "Vegas to Reno" event. Brandon Smith, a 19-year old young man from Hesperia, CA, died during a single-vehicle motorcycle accident at mile marker 350, just ouside of Pit 10 Redlich. Our condolences go out to Brandon's family and friend's and we are so sorry for the loss of Brandon, a young man who loved to ride motorcycles and who was loved by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon's family at this very sad time. We can only hope that your memories of Brandon offer you some comfort. The family has asked that if you have any photos of Brandon (#327) that day, they would really appreciate having them. You can send them to me and I will forward them on. Memorial service information is following this note, along with the official notice.

The RANGER RZR is the only Side by Side to finish longest desert race

Minneapolis, August 29, 2007 – The Polaris RANGER RZR proved its grit , dependability and incredible staying power in the desert this past weekend when it was the only side-by-side to finish the grueling 567 miles of the Best in the Desert’s Series “Vegas to Reno” race. The RANGER RZR was built and piloted by Jagged X and finished the race in just over 21 hours. “The RZR continues to show its awesome combination of power, performance, and reliability whether on the trail or the track,” said Craig Scanlon, product line sales manager for the Polaris Side x Side Division. “Polaris could not be more proud of the passion, preparation and dedication of our partners at Jagged X. We would like to thank them for helping us reach this milestone in RANGER RZR racing history.”

You can still hear and feel the pounding hooves slamming uneven landscape… soon to be overcome by the pounding of thousands of horsepower. In the late 19th century, 183 extremely brave men (some as young as 11) on ponies challenged the terrain and elements the racers in this year’s Vegas to Reno race are attempting to conquer. Running over some of the same trails that the original Pony Express ran from 1860 to 1861, this year’s TSCO “Vegas to Reno” – certifiably the Longest Off-Road Race in the United States, is creating tremendous excitement among the off-road racing community.
