my intro - 2008/08/11 04:21 Thought I would stop in and intro myself. My name is Mark Toney and I own The Corner Lot Resort LLC in Pearl MS. It is an OVR area for two wheels. Yea MX and Enduro. WE have to get our bikes to the tracks and a cool truck is what we are building to that. That is how I found your site.

The basic project started with a 88 F150 two wheel drive. The 302 was cool but to pull the trailor we needed more so a 351W was built. It is on a stand and ready to be installed this Wend. I hope to have it running by the weekend and I will update yall on the progress.

I want the truck to be the center peice for the track and so the looks of the truck a big concern. I'm looking for a long travel fornt and rear sup. and body panels as well. Any help and ideas would be great.

Thanks
Mark

Re:my intro - 2008/08/13 16:47 Hey Mark,
Sounds like a sick project. One thing you will need to balance is towing and travel in the rear.

If you go the route of long-travel leaf springs in the rear you might need some sort of helper device to go a long with it.

The people at Deaver Spring can make you a custom set of springs that can give you increased travel and still be able to tow your bikes. It won't be the same as a set of towing springs, as you will loose a little bit of capacity, but towing bikes is less than towing another truck.

For the suspension pieces I would check out Camburg or AutoFab. Both of these companies make some great products for your beam suspension.

Both companies also sell the fiberglass body panels you'll need.

Be sure to keep us posted on the build.

Re:my intro - 2008/08/15 22:51 Well the engin is still on the stand and after many hours of research for the correct converter for an AOD trans I found that the trans is no good and will have to be replaced. Yea the AOD will not hold up to the H.P. that we will have in this motor. A shop in Bossier City LA will build a new trans called a A.O.Dominator. Richard has build a lot of units for other hot rods for me in the past so maybe mid week next week I will get to start it up. I leaving at 0730 to get the new trans tomorrow.

I am having to rethink the the whole long travel sup for this truck. Due to the work load that this truck will have I might have to rework the stock springs and add air bags to help with the load. Seems that this truck will now have to pull the race trailor and that will not work with my plans. No big deal! I still have a 91 F150 4x4 that I can build into a pre runner.

I will post some pics of the project in the next day or two. Thanks for the help.

Re:my intro - 2008/08/17 02:40 I'm back from Bossier City LA and I have the new trans in hand. What a great peice of work this things is. Richard did a great job. I took a tour of the shop and he let me take a look at his new project, 505 big block chevy! This truck is bad!!!!!

All the rest of the parts came in today so the wife and I picked them up on the way home. MSD 6AL and dist along with the headman headers. If all goes well and the weather will hold I might get the motor and trans set tomorrow.

On a side note we stoped by the 8th Air Force musuem today. They have added some nice stuff like a SR71 a B52 G that whent to Desert Storm with me and several others. There were several people out cleaning and painting and the place just looks great! If yall are ever out that way stop by and pay respect.

We also took advantage to our trip and had a custom set of pipes installed on the wifes new FX4. Q Tone is the best shop I know and his work in second to none.

Thats if for now as soon as I can figure out how to resize a pic I will post some. I aint real smart like that you know.

Re:my intro - 2008/10/25 21:12 ok an update and one that is well over due. The refrigeration world has been rocking and that is what pays the bills so I have not had a whole lot of time to work on the truck.

I have installed the motor, trans and all the rest of the drive line. Installed the MSD and completed a new wiring harness. Set the timing and started it up. When I started to service the trans I found the front pump was bad. Shut it down and had to pull the trans back out. When I did I found the pump and convertor where trashed. Sent the trans back and had to have it rebuilt. Got it back and whent to install it again. Taken my time to find the problem as I can't afford to rebuild it again. I found the flex plate wrong and that is what did the damage the first time. I have spent a week and a half to find the correct plate. Turns out Ford only used this combo 351 and AOD for one year in 1 model. 1991 crown vic police issue. I have the plate and I will be installing it and the trans later tonight.

An update will follow. And I still can't figure out how to resize a pic so I might have to have some help to post pics.

Later
Mark
