Hi. - 2007/09/02 23:16 Hi y'all guys! I'm new to the forums and the site. I've been a fan of Prerunners since I saw it on TV and other various places.
There is one thing though,
I don't know anything about how prerunner suspension works, what modifications would be needed, so on so on. I've heard that it takes so much modifications that the only thing stock on the truck would be the "FORD" icon (this was what was said that I heard) lol...

Anyone mind explaining to me about the whole suspension, modifications, etc thing?

Thanks!

Re:Hi. - 2007/10/11 15:24 The beauty of prerunners is you are only limited by your imagination.

There are some vehicles like Ford Rangers, or Toyotas that it would be easier because so many Fab Shops make kits for them.

The basic recipe is long travel front suspension kit that would give you over 12 inches of travel. In an effort to help others like yourself check out our Front Suspension buyers guide.

Next on the menu is long travel in the rear. The most cost effective way is to use Deaver Springs. These high quality springs are made to off lots of travel when used in conjunction with a bed cage. Check out our Rear Suspension buyers guide for more details.

A bedcage is created to raise the mounting points of the rear shocks. This allows for use of longer shocks so you can get more travel out of them.

Next on the list are fiberglass body panels. These pieces allow for long travel and larger tires without having to lift it to the sky for clearance. They come in the form of fiberglass front fenders and bedsides. The other option for the rear is to have the factory bedsides flared like we did on our Project Desert Ranger. This still allows the tires to tuck inside the fenders without rubbing.

Using 'glass body pieces instead of a lift kit also keeps your center of gravity lower which helps in high speed driving over the desert.

Be sure to post any more questions you have. Also be sure to check out our cover story in our June issue, "What to Build" This will help you see the options you have available when choosing what type of prerunner best suites you.
