Prerunners

Last month we gave you a preview of the new factory Ford Prerunner named Raptor. Ford is calling this truck, "The first and only Baja 1000 Trophy Truck you'll be able to buy from a dealer."

This prerunner owner is not afraid of heights.

In hopes of getting a better ride on-road the automakers have made a move to independent front suspension designs. Now if you have been into prerunners for a while this might seem like a step back in technology.

Well prerunner fans it seems you will be able to buy a long travel F-150 right from your Ford dealer in 2009.

I’m sure you might have seen the TV show where they took an old Chevy Suburban and turned it into a burly Hummer tow rig. Well the same company, 4X4 Bodies.com, that makes the Hummer body now makes one for Ford Rangers.

I get asked a lot, “So how can I get into Desert Racing?” My reply is usually, “How much money do you have?”

After hearing the buzz about the new TrophyLite trucks I decided to get some more details about this new desert race truck.

Trophy Kart takes the next step with more power and a 5-speed transmission.

Ranger on the Edge

One of our readers contacted us and said he and a friend had a couple of prerunners that we might want to feature. After they had sent some pics over, we set up a time for a photo shoot to get a closer look at these prerunners.

To hopefully squeeze out a little more power from of our 4.0 V6 in Project Desert Ranger we decided to see if the claims made by Flowmaster were true.

I met the owner of this F-150 prerunner through another reader of our magazine, and he asked about getting his truck featured in our magazine. He sent me a link to a picture of his truck and instantly I said, “When can you come out for a photo shoot?”

We met Nick Irwin of Vision X at the 2007 SEMA show where they we debuting their new LED technology. I have been a long time proponent of LEDs ever since I was a kid, going to the electronics store to put LEDs on my r/c cars. Well now you can have LEDs on your big toy.

When we first started Project Desert Ranger I had a set of 6” KC Daylighters which seemed impressive compared to the factory Ranger lights. After adding the FOX remote reservoir shocks to the rear (and of course the Dixon kit in front) we were able to go faster off-road and this included the night time as well.

Most people that decide to build a prerunner already have in mind that they are going to using fiberglass fenders and fiberglass bedsides. What if you have a 4X4 daily driver with a smashed fender? Have you thought of using fiberglass fenders instead of replacing or fixing your factory metal fenders?

We showed up in Primm on Friday for the Pre-run or Pre-Fun Run as SNORE calls it. We heard the course was only a 13 mile lap so we decided to take a stab at it with our Project Desert RZR. We unloaded the RZR and got in line.

New FOX Remote Reservoir Shocks Take the Spring Out of Our Step.

After reading about the rear suspension build on our Project Desert Ranger it is time to tell you if it was worth it. All I have to say is HECK YEAH!!!
