Prerunner Articles

Halloween is generally the kick-off date of the dune season at Dumont. The reason is this is when it starts to cool off there.

Well I have to say that all the hard work that goes into producing this magazine every month has its perks. While working on an upcoming segment of our “Meet the Race Teams” features, I got the opportunity to really go behind the scenes of the Team Ford Racing team, I actually got a ride in their Trophy Truck, two rides to be exact.

We are always looking for great prerunners, race trucks, and side x sides to feature in the magazine. The problem we run into is the vehicle might be nice but the pictures showing it aren’t. We felt the best way to solve this was to give our readers a little instruction on “How to get your Prerunner in our Magazine”. Think of this as photography 101.

I get asked a lot, “So how can I get into Desert Racing?” My reply is usually, “How much money do you have?”

Most people that decide to build a prerunner already have in mind that they are going to using fiberglass fenders and fiberglass bedsides. What if you have a 4X4 daily driver with a smashed fender? Have you thought of using fiberglass fenders instead of replacing or fixing your factory metal fenders?

We showed up in Primm on Friday for the Pre-run or Pre-Fun Run as SNORE calls it. We heard the course was only a 13 mile lap so we decided to take a stab at it with our Project Desert RZR. We unloaded the RZR and got in line.

Even though Prerunners are not yet “mainstream”, there was quite a bit to see at this year’s SEMA Show.

Just 2 weeks before the event we were offered a great deal on a 10x20 booth, and then scurried to get our stuff together. Originally we planned to simply cover the event, but the offer was too good to pass up, and I am glad we didn’t. We did find out that 10x20 with our Project Desert Ranger in it did not leave us much room. Next Expo we are going 20x20.

Tell your friends and tell your enemies!!! We are looking for readers’ submissions of the worst carnage ever seen. If you got it on video or you snapped a picture of it, then send it to us right away.

I wish there was a place I could go and buy a prerunner because I don’t have the time to wait for one to be built. If this is something you say to yourself then you’re in luck.

The Extreme Motorsports Expo 2007 is the 5th year for this great event. It is held at the Orange County Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa CA. Let me tell you if you like anything offroad this is a must see event. It offers everything for the offroad enthusiast like long travel sand cars, lifted golf carts, highly modified side x sides like Rhinos, prerunners and giant lifted trucks.

This is the very question I asked when I was looking to build a Prerunner. I had recently moved to a rural area, Pahrump, Nevada home of the Terrible’s Town 250. I wanted something that I could stomp the vast desert areas around my house as well as hit the dunes at Dumont. I thought about doing something different than the normal 2WD Prerunner because I wanted the best of both worlds. Along with flying through the dunes I wanted to be able to hit some of the mountain trails in the area.

Was it worth the work?…Hell Yes!!! After spending days at Woolworth Motorsports shooting pictures of the front end build I finally got the chance to hit the desert and see what this thing can do.

Starting this site I have visited a lot of Fabricators’ websites. One thing I found they almost all have in common is they are UGLY.

I myself am a Web Designer that loves Prerunners. Just like when a Fabricator sees an ugly weld I can’t stand seeing an ugly site.
